About the Piece
This painting was done by memory after I painted the first version of the same painting (right on the Capitol ground, at the time of the gathering, and with the Kumu Hula permission) in the Capitol building, on Oahu.
It represent the gathering of the Kumu Hula who came from all the Hawaiian Islands to oppose the Senate Bill 8 and House Bill 1920 which would have required Native Hawaiian to register to practice traditional religious, cultural and subsistence practices on undeveloped land.
