Historic Hawai‘i Foundation is pleased to host a Virtual Art Exhibit to showcase art inspired by historic places in Hawai‘i. From budding artists to experienced professionals—all are welcome to share their personal expression of a special historic place in the Islands through written word or visual interpretation.

Historic places are rich sources of connection, nurturing a sense of identity through history, culture, and ancestral roots, and uplifting our spirits with their physical beauty and character. Art is a powerful tool of engagement with the potential to awaken deeper connections with the past, with places, and with each other—leading to that point of serendipity!

To further interaction and engagement, public voting will be used to select People’s Choice Awards for each category, with Honorable Mention Awards for outstanding works representing each Island (Hawai‘i, Maui, Moloka‘i, Lāna‘i, Kaho‘olawe, O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, Ni‘ihau and Northwestern Islands). We also hope to support local artists with the opportunity to offer their work for sale.

HISTORIC HAWAI‘I FOUNDATION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This is the website of Historic Hawai‘i Foundation and by using our website you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions and privacy policy set out below.

Historic Hawai‘i Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping people save historic places in Hawai‘i through advocacy efforts, assistance, and educational programs.

‘You’, ‘your’ refers to the user of the website.

General Terms of using our website

All content of the pages of our website is for general information and use only and is subject to change without notice;
No guarantees or warranties are provided as to the accuracy or suitability of the information and materials found or offered on this website; we accept no liabilities or legal claims for any inaccuracies or errors;
Unauthorized use of this website may give rise to a claim for damages; and
This website may from time to time include links to other websites. These links are provided solely for the convenience of users and in no way signifies endorsement or responsibility for the content of any linked website(s);
The use of our website is subject to the laws of Hawai‘i and the United States of America and by using and continuing to use our website you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of Hawai‘i and the United States of America for the settlement of any disputes.

Your submissions

We have an open call for works of art under the stated submission requirements. Art work may be omitted from the exhibit should they fail to be relevant to the stated theme of historic places in Hawai‘i; meet the entry deadline or instructions; or contain lewd, offensive or inappropriate references.

You retain all copyright to the images and written works submitted but agree to grant us a perpetual, royalty free, non-exclusive, sub-licensable right including a license to use, reproduce, publish, distribute, make available to the public and exercise all sub-licensable copyright and publicity rights in respect of your submission. By submitting the application, you are granting HHF permission to incorporate your art work into our media or marketing materials.

Your entry submission to HHF warrants the following:

The submitted works of art are your own original work and you have the right to make it available to HHF for all the purposes identified above;
That you will indemnify HHF against all legal fees/damages and all associated costs that may be incurred as a result of your breach of the warranty;
That your submission is not defamatory and does not infringe any law; and
That you are over the age of 18. For those 18 and younger, you submit to a parent/guardian acting on your behalf. The parent/guardian must provide a signed release statement at the time of registration.

Submission Format

Submissions can be made via the online entry form.

Each submission can be made up of images, text, and should contain a written biography, artist statement and image information such as the title, medium, technique and dimensions following the requirements of the entry form.

All submissions are to be reviewed by a panel of committee members, carefully selected by us for their comments on whether each submission should be included or not included in HHF’s art exhibit based on relevance to the theme and adherence to the entry requirements. HHF reserves the right to decline any submission.

You retain all copyright to the images and written works submitted but agree to grant us a perpetual, royalty free, non-exclusive, sub-licensable right including a license to use, reproduce, publish, distribute, make available to the public, and exercise all sub-licensable copyright and publicity rights in respect of your submission.

Should you wish to terminate our rights over your works, you must give one month’s written notice to preservation@historichawaii.org identifying what works the license to use is withdrawn from.

PRIVACY POLICY

Historic Hawai‘i Foundation (HHF or Foundation) values the trust its donors, program participants, and other stakeholders place in the organization and adheres to the highest standards in gathering, using and safeguarding their information. We do not rent, sell or trade donor information to any third party.

The information you or your employer provides to us is used to help ensure accurate records, to process and confirm receipt of your donation, and to respond to any of your requests. We also use your information to send acknowledgement of your gift information and to provide information about our work which we think you may find of interest. If you do not wish to receive such communications, you may let us know at any time by contacting the Historic Hawai‘i Foundation office. In addition, e-mail messages you receive from HHF will include instructions on how to unsubscribe.

Historic Hawai‘i Foundation educates our employees and volunteers on the importance of protecting the privacy and security of confidential personal and organizational information. This privacy policy applies to collection of information, including information collected on Historic Hawai‘i Foundation’s website (www.historichawaii.org) and social media. By submitting your information to us or any of our staff, you consent to the terms and conditions of the policy and to the processing of personal information for the purposes stated below.

Historic Hawai‘i Foundation may use Personally Identifiable Information subject to the terms of this privacy policy. “Personal Information” is information that identifies you personally, such as your name, address, telephone number and email address. We collect and store the personally identifiable information that you have provided us. Here are some examples of ways in which we may collect your information:

We may collect your name, address and email in order to respond when you request information via email, website, social media, or otherwise contact us in person, by phone or mail, with a question or comment;
We may collect your name, email address and other contact information if you register for an event or program;
We may collect your name, email address, telephone number and payment information when you make a contribution or purchase, either on our website, over the phone or by mail via check.

We do not provide donor information to third parties except under the following conditions:

Public Recognition: We publicly recognize and thank donors, volunteers and other stakeholders for their generosity. If you prefer to remain anonymous, please indicate this when completing your payment or pledge form.
Internal Administration: Personally Identifiable Information may be used for administrative purposes, including but not limited to database management, website administration, bulk mailing, troubleshooting, processing of e-commerce or other transactions, and other communications with you. Certain third parties who provide technical support may have limited access to such information (for example, our web hosting service, merchant services provider, or bulk mail service).
Aggregated Information: Information that does not personally identify you may be used in many ways. For example, we may combine information about usage patterns with similar information obtained from other users to help enhance our site and services (e.g., to learn which pages are visited most or what programs are most used).
